Software and Analysis

Software and Analysis
by Dr Invest

A fundamental philsophy of this blog is to "save you money". That is what we want to do in recommending possible sites so you can do your own analysis. So here are some great sites to help you

Seasonal Charts

EquityClock provides seasonal charts. By looking at how a stock has performed over a period of 20 years, you can identify SEASONAL TRENDS. This is invaluable in knowing when a stock might perform the best. As always, make sure before you invest in ANY STOCK that the trend is moving upward. Go to EQUITYCLOCK.COM to see at what times of the year your stock performs the best.  http://charts.equityclock.com/

ETF Back Testing

ETFreplay has a FREE and excellent ETFbacktesting section that will show you how a particular ETF portfolio will perform. (ETF = exchange traded funds) Remember, when you use backtesting, you are looking at the history of an ETF. This is like driving a car while looking through the rear view mirror. So backtesting can't guarantee future returns, but may indicate the possibility of future returns if the market is stable and in an uptrend.  http://etfreplay.com/combine.aspx

Investor Dashboards

With Investor Dashboards you can enter your stocks or ETFs and the graphs can be followed to identify gainers or losers. This is a great tool to see if your overall portfolio is trending upward; if not, you may need to readjust your investments to get back to an uptrend. You can also enter moving averages on each chart to identify advancing weaknesses.  http://investordashboards.com/

Another Investor Dashboard is SIGFIG.COM. This especially practical when entering a number of investment firms and brokerage houses. You can see your overall returns on one easy dashboard. At a glance, you will know how well your positions are performing.

FinViz

Finviz is a stock screen and so much more. Finviz shows the daily gainers and losers, provides a visual graphical interface so you can see which stocks are hot and which are not. Finviz is one of my favorites. http://www.finviz.com/

Conclusion

A good investing method doesn't require these tools but investors want to check, re-check, and check once again that their investment will have the best chance of success. No one wants to have a successful investment and then from their in-attention, lose all of the hard-earned gains from the past months. These tools can help the investor build confidence as he learns to trust his trading methods.
